Forwarded from your chair:
Dear LSC Officials Chairs,
Attached are the Open Water (OW) Certification Minimum Standards Guidelines. As the name implies, they are the minimum standards that the National Officials Committee would like to see used to certify OW officials. Mentioned in the guidelines for each level of certification under Education and Training: “Must attend Open Water Clinic…”. To aid in this process, there are NOC approved OW Clinicians (see list below) that are available to put on an OW Clinic, on-line or in person (depending on time, location, and clinician availability).
In an effort to make clinics more accessible to any and all who would like to attend one, the OW Clinicians will send an email with clinic times, dates, and an invitation link, to Curtis Myers (NOC LSC OC), who in turn will forward that email to the LSC OC’s. I hope that you then will make this email accessible to your LSC officials one way or another. The OW Clinicians will also post the information to Facebook on the USAS Officials page.
Open Water Swimming is gaining in popularity across the country. We want to ensure our OW swimmers are taken care of with officials well-trained in safety and best practices. The OW Clinics are an integral part of that process.
Please feel free to email me with any questions you may have. The OW Clinicians listed below are also available to help you get OW events up and running in your LSC!
Sincerely,
Mike Murphy
NOC Open Water Liaison
